This is an original song about My time in Memphis, particularly on Beale Street, trying to
sing the blues. Back then I was a barefoot hippie walking down the street playing my clarinet
and singing random tunes at the top of my lungs. No one there would let me in the clubs to
sing at any open mics or on any stages...it wasn’t my music. Crying on a park bench, I was
approached by Albert King Jr.’s great grandson who asked me why I was crying and alone.
He proceeded to give me a tough lesson about roots music and where it all comes from,
eventually giving me a chance to sing with Zena The Mojo Mama at the smallest club at the end
of the street….he had to do a LOT of talking to get me in. It made me fall in love with the
blues, and it made the blues fall in love with me. This song is a story about that time.
